Project Presentation at the IAD4AD

The 12th of March marks the International Awareness day for avoidable death. The Avoidable Death Network invited us to present our work in rural Odisha and its connection to reducing death. We are very greatfull for the opportunity and the chance to connect with experts fro different fields, to learn about their work to reducing avoidable death.

Fourth PRA Pilot-Activity

Having gathered a lot of insights into the community, we wanted our participants to identify the most pressing problems. For them we created a problem tree, diving deep into impacts and causes for the problems. We left with adressable root causes to these problems clearly identified.

Third PRA Pilot-Activity

Building on the work of the previous day, we continued to assess the ressouces and the community interaction. A deep dive with a social-ressource map formed the basis of long discussions throughout the day.

Second PRA Pilot-Activity

Gathering the familiar faces from Kajapatia, Runkei and Furusipada we discussed the ressorces the community interacts with and their scarcity or availability. Discussing the changes in ressource availability trought the month and years took us until nightfall in Kakatpur.

Second Expert Roundtable

As in our first expert roundtable we presented the state of our project and all sucesses but more importatly all challenges from the previous weeks. They combined experience about working in rural Odisha helped us again to ajust and gain confidence in our appoach.

Third Block Level Need Assessment

The SAFER Unit's third field trip focused on climate resilience in Kajalpatia and Runkei villages, using focus groups and surveys. Water issues persisted despite efforts. The SAFER Unit is satisfied and committed to supporting vulnerable communities facing climate change and disaster risks.

First Expert Roundtable

To develop SAFER in a sustainable and effective way and evaluate our methodes we depend on expert input. Our first offical roundtable with our commited and experiences group of experts helped us trumendously to push our project forward in the right way.

Second Need Assessment Field Trip

Field trip to conduct four Focus Group Discussions and about 40 Need Assessment Surveys in the Chilika and Begunia Block of Khorda District. The Team had productive discussions with divers groups of farmers and learned new realities about the natural hazards faced by the rural farmers in Odisha

First Need Assessment Field Trip

First Field Trip

For the first field visit, the SAFER Project Team went to the Chilika Block to align the project ideas with the reality faced by the farmers. The trip aimed to assess the feasibility of the projects strategic planning and concepts to mitigate the vulnerability of farmers to climate change.
