WHAT IS SAFEr?
Securing Agriculture from Enviromental Risk (SAFER) is a project conducted by the NGO OSVSWA in rural Odisha. It is connected to the Comprehensive Rice Fallow Management Program (CRFMP) in which OSVSWA is facilitating the implementation in multiple Districts. SAFER targets the Farmers that are part of the CRFMP trying to increase the resilience of their livlihoods by improving the resilience and lowering vulnerability.
The SAFER Project is managed by European Solidarity Corps Staff working for OSVSWA under the Humanitarian Aid for the Needs of Development (HAND) Program. It is implemented by local staff that is already working in the field for the CRFMP as a additional task. This leads to the most efficent use of time and ressources, not only for the staff and OSVSWA but also for the targeted farmers. By implementing and organizing this Project in this way, we try to achive the biggest impact with the available ressources, without wasting any opportunities.
The Project started in October 2023 and is planned to continue until June 2024, with the possibility for extention. The initial Pilot Project is set out to finish in January 2024 after it sarted in November 2023. In the initial phase the project is funded by OSVSWA, however with positive results of the pilot project, additional fundraising from donors will be conducted.
about us
For a successful project, people have to come together and work in unity. Every person can bring their insight and passion to create something that alone could never be achieved. This is especially true for this project, managed by Members of the European Solidarity Corps and OSVSWA Staff, and implemented through OSVSWA field staff on district and block levels, as well as local staff from each Gram Panchayat employed by OSVSWA. Here, different ideas, worldviews, knowledge, and experiences come together and challenge each other to ensure the project outcome for communities in rural Odisha is as good as it can be.
The project SAFER is working with the Orissa State Volunteers and Social Workers Association in cooperation with the European Solidarity Corps Humanitarian Aid program, and is dedicated to reduce the vulnerability of Farmers in rural Odisha, that are facing the impact of a changing climate
